Philips launches new Sonicare brush head

The new Philips Sonicare brush head is clinically proven for sensitive teeth and sensitive to the environment.

Around 30% of people are troubled with tooth sensitivity (Sunstar, 2021). They may experience pain or discomfort as a response to one or a number of triggers. These may include hot, cold, sweet or acidic foods and beverages, or cold air or water. Sensitivity may also be triggered by brushing, flossing or using alcohol-based mouth rinses. The typical response is to brush more gingerly or less frequently which can exacerbate the risk of developing periodontal disease.

The converse is actually the recommended course of treatment. With Philips newly launched Sonicare ultra-soft brush head for patients with sensitive teeth, it is possible to recommend a caring new brushing protocol. This has been shown to reduce gum bleeding, redness and swelling.

‘An extra soft yet effective brushing experience’

The new Philips S2 brush head fits any adult Sonicare toothbrush handle. It guarantees the softest brushing experience with superior cleaning for sensitive teeth and gums. More than 2,000 of the thinnest bristle filaments of any Sonicare brush head (0.1mm) are amassed on the head. It is designed to provide an extra soft yet effective brushing experience. The stepped trim profile of the bristles also ensures that they hug the gumline and penetrate the interproximal areas most effectively.

Studies demonstrate that the new ‘marshmallow soft’ brush head is clinically proven to effectively remove 10 times more plaque than a manual brush. It does this while remaining gentle on gums, ensuring patients receive a superior clean.

Brushing with Sonicare fitted with an S2 brush head improves gum health significantly better than a manual toothbrush. This is because the extra soft bristles gently brush along the gum line, for up to five times healthier gums in just six weeks.

Testimonials

Dr Zainab Al-Mukhtar, cosmetic dentist and co-owner of Harrow on the Hill Dental and Facial Aesthetics, says: ‘The new Philips sensitive brush head has a great shape that is akin to a manual brush head but better, with a comfortable gentle glide across the teeth while cleaning effectively.

‘It’s a particularly clever shape that makes it easy to reach the back of the mouth right far behind the last molars effectively and comfortably with comfortably. I recommend this brush head to all. Even more so to people who usually find it quite hard to reach the back of the mouth.’

Dr Amit Patel, general dentist and Mydentist Dentist of the Year 2023, adds: ‘The brushes are the most superior and comfortable brush on the market without exception. The design of the bristles and texture makes it ideal for those with sensitivity. It effectively cleans your teeth but doesn’t damage them in any way. I also like the shape of the head which allows effective cleaning over a large surface area.’

Environmentally sensitive

The new brush head is also more sensitive to environmental concerns as 70% is formed from bio-based plastic on a mass balance basis. It can be recycled through Philips’ backed Terracycle scheme.
