Providing dental hygienists and dental therapists with the tools and confidence to work to their full scope of Practice
To be held in two parts:
2 weeks before the ‘in-person’ event – 1hr webinar on oral health assessments, diagnosing and treatment planning within scope. This will also include a basic guide in how to work within the NHS rules and regulations.
The week up to the hands-on day – we will host a series of 20min webinars on each of the hands-on elements you have chosen. The person leading each element, will present the theory in preparation for the hands-on.
THE HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
After choosing 4 out of 5 tables available, you will rotate between your selection being carefully supported and tutored along the way. Develop your confidence and refresh your skills to enhance your clinical practice.
The recent initial changes to the NHS dental contract in England allowing dental hygienists and dental therapists to work to their full scope of practice has created many questions and requests for educational opportunities to refresh knowledge and refine skills enabling them to meet the needs of patients in both an NHS and Private practice setting. This educational event will offer participants just that, an opportunity to update their knowledge and refine their skills. The theory session held online will cover oral health assessments, diagnosing and treatment planning within scope. Whilst the hands-on session held face-to-face will include fissure sealants, temporary dressings, and re-cementing crowns temporarily, alginate impressions, rubber dam placement and anterior composite restorations.
To provide participants with the opportunity to update their knowledge and refine their skills so that they are able to provide appropriate oral health care for patients within their full scope of practice, in line with the General Dental Council Scope of Practice document.
By the end of the session the participants will be able to:
- Summarise the GDC Scope of Practice of a dental hygienist and dental therapist
- Apply the principles of a comprehensive oral health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning within the scope of a dental hygienist and/or dental therapist according to the GDC document.
- Perform preventative interventions, fissure sealants and topical fluoride varnish
- Demonstrate recementing crowns temporarily, temporary dressings and alginate impression taking.
- Practice cavity preparations
