Energy prices for businesses capped for six months

Energy bill – prices for businesses to be fixed for six monthsEnergy bills for UK businesses – including dental practices – will fall by around half of their predicted levels following a new government support scheme.

From 1 October, the government’s emergency package will cap gas and electricity prices for business for the next six months.

This will also apply to charities and public sector organisations, including schools.

Wholesale prices are expected to be fixed at 21.1p per kilowatt hours (kWh) for electricity and 7.5p per kWh for gas

According to reports, it it believed this will be reviewed after three months where it may be extended for ‘vulnerable businesses’.

Companies do not need to contact suppliers as the discount will automatically be applied to their bills. The savings will begin to appear in November’s bills as they will be backdated to October.

Prime Minister Liz Truss said: ‘I understand the huge pressure businesses, charities and public sector organisations are facing with their energy bills, which is why we are taking immediate action to support them over the winter and protect jobs and livelihoods.

‘As we are doing for consumers, our new scheme will keep their energy bills down from October, providing certainty and peace of mind.

‘At the same time, we are boosting Britain’s homegrown energy supply so we fix the root cause of the issues we are facing and ensure greater energy security for us all.’

Billions in support

This follows Truss’s announcement made earlier this month where she revealed a £150bn plan to help households with their rising bills over the next two years.

The Prime Minister said that the typical household will pay no more than £2,500 a year for the next two years under her new Energy Price Guarantee (EPG).

This is in addition to the £400 Energy Bill Support Scheme that was announced earlier this year.
