On 9-10 June, Ormco is holding an immersive training course for any UK orthodontists looking to build their confidence or start their journey with Spark Clear Aligners.
Taking place at Clayton Hotel, Birmingham, the two-day course will be led by leading cosmetic dentist Dr Teki Sowdani. This course is the starting point of a six month educational program, which also includes knowledge booster webinars, study clubs and ongoing support from the Ormco team and their dedicated Spark clinical team.
His tailor-made course will cover the Spark fundamentals, from the principles of biomechanics to retention and review.
Attendees will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to seamlessly integrate Spark Clear Aligners into their treatment plans, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
We spoke to Teki to find out what the course will cover, who it is most suitable for, and what he’s most looking forward to about it.
Can you tell us more about the upcoming Spark course?
I’m really excited about the up and coming course – it’s something that we’ve been working hard on.
Having been on the journey myself, using aligners and really understanding how they work and how they fit into a private practice, I’ve really designed this so that the delegates can get full knowledge of what they need to provide this type of treatment.
But it will also cover how to apply it into their day-to-day practice and create an efficient workflow within their teams and their practices.
Who would you say the course is most suitable for?
The course is designed for dentists that have got limited or even no experience with aligners. We’re really targeting the beginners.
There’s a lot of dentists that have dabbled, they’ve tried aligners, but maybe something hasn’t gone great and then they’ve been put off by it.
So we’re really aiming to build these dentists’ confidence up. And for those that have never done aligners, I mean, it was a game changer for me, so I’m hoping it will be as inspirational for them.
What sort of topics is it going to be covering?
We start with the foundations. We’re going to cover the principles of biomechanics which is really important.
Then we’re going to move on to more practical topics like case selection. And after that we move on to how we actually do the aligning of treatments, including placing the attachments, things like IPR.
Finally, we will finish off with troubleshooting and how to monitor cases. Because I’ve been there and done it all, every single question can be asked and that’s what I’m there for.
Why did you choose to use Spark for this course?
I was attracted to Spark because some of the experts in the field that I follow, I’d seen that they’d actually started to use a different aligner system. And with the way that I am, I’m always looking to improve the way that I practise. So that’s how I initially came across it.
Once I looked into it, I really was excited to try out the product. But like with anything, and especially when we’re working with aligners and any orthodontic treatment, it takes time really to see how it’s going to manifest itself in practise.
But I must admit, over the last year I’ve been blown away. The results that we’ve been getting have been incredible. It’s really allowed me to take my aligner treatment to the next level.
And from a patient point of view, the benefits that they’ve had from the product itself, let alone the efficiency of how it all works, have been great. It’s really been a win-win and it’s been one of the best decisions that I’ve made.
What are you most looking forward to about the course?
When I’m presenting these courses, the thing that I’m most excited about is the delegates and meeting everybody there.
With every course that I’ve been on, whether I’ve been attending or whether I’ve been presenting, I’ve always seemed to leave with lifelong friends. And it’s great to meet colleagues that have got that same passion for these treatments.
I’m really there to make the day as informative as possible and just give everything that I can to making it into the best day.
What are the benefits of attending? What can people take home from the event?
The unique thing about this course is really how the background theory is going to relate to how it’s practised on a day-to-day level.
And obviously with myself presenting it, the cases that I’m going to be using and the experience I’m going be given is all based on the line of treatments that have been done over the last eight years.
So literally every single bit of advice and experience that I’ve got to share will be shared.
