Make 2023 the best year for your career

Make 2023 the best year for your career

What are the main reasons why people quit their jobs? Of course, better pay and benefits are considered to be the main motivators.

But research carried out by the CIPD (the UK’s professional body for human resources and people development) shows that job satisfaction and work/life balance are also strong factors.

In last year’s CIPD Good Work Index – a survey of more than 6,000 UK workers looking to pursue a new job – 27% wanted to increase job satisfaction, 24% were looking for a better work/life balance and 23% wanted to a career change. A third (35%) were looking for better pay and benefits.

At Colosseum Dental, we consider all of these factors when building career packages for new candidates. Not only that, we aim to ensure the ongoing needs of our people are continuously reviewed and met.

It’s not about the money (but sometimes, it is!)

The current economic situation in the UK has led to a cost of living crisis that’s having an impact on everyone.

For some, finding a new job that offers an improved pay package is the only option. At Colosseum Dental, we’re proud to say that our pay packages are above industry average.

We consider numerous factors when agreeing on a personalised pay rate for our clinicians, such as experience and specialisms, but ultimately, we invest in the best.

Where we see potential, talent and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care, we’ll go above and beyond to offer the best possible package.

Colosseum Dental is a great place to work. Fact!

We’re one of few UK dental groups to be officially certified a ‘Great Place to Work’. We place our ‘people’ at the heart of everything we do.

Of course, that means providing excellent care to our patients, but the beating heart of our business is the people in practice who make it all happen. Without happy staff, we simply can’t expect happy patients.

Our clinicians receive ongoing career development support, access to our training academy in Oslo and investment in personal development, specialism learning and progression.

Our practices operate at a local level; small, friendly ‘family feel’ teams that respect a clinically-led approach, while recognising the importance of mutual respect, empathy and compassion. We may be part of one of the biggest and fastest-growing dental groups in Europe, but our practices don’t feel ‘corporate’.

The juggle – it doesn’t have to be a struggle

Over the last few years, workplaces and employers have had to rethink how they structure their terms, employment packages and ways of working. Employees have a right to request flexible working patterns that benefit their personal needs.

Many of our clinicians work flexible or part time hours, and we offer the option to work at different practices across our UK network of 89 clinics in addition to the possibility of relocating to one of our European locations.

Before a new starter signs the dotted line, we’ll do whatever it takes to make sure the terms of their employment are ‘just right’.

Why work for a dentistry ‘group’?

Our practices benefit from professional support and resources from our head office teams, such as facilities management, recruitment, finance, marketing and operations.

This means our practice teams can focus on day-to-day practice management and delivering a fantastic patient experience; and individuals have more time to focus on their core roles, perfecting their specialisms and pursuing personal development.

We invest in the latest clinical technology to enable our teams to operate in a way that’s modern and innovative.

Within our group, career progression is always possible, with a wide network of practices and roles providing more opportunity than smaller groups or private practices.

And lastly, our dentistry group is quite unlike any other. Our main beneficiary and owner (The Jacobs Foundation) is a charity; one of the world’s leading children’s development foundations.

Don’t just take our word for it

Christopher Yong is a partner dentist at Colosseum Dental, having joined the group five years ago following Colosseum’s acquisition of his clinic.

‘I can say with my hand on my heart that Colosseum Dental has been a major factor in the development of my career,’ he says. ‘Personal development and further learning is key to improving patient outcomes and, in my case, professional satisfaction.

‘Colosseum have given me immense opportunities to develop myself as a person and as a dentist. For example, with their support and training, I’ve been able to fully embrace a modern and digital approach to dentistry (something I was apprehensive about previously).

‘A lot of corporate dental groups have poor systems in place to manage the complexities that come with providing good dental care. Colosseum Dental are well organised, well managed and, most of all, they really do care for their staff. You will be hard pressed to find another dentistry group who will treat you as fairly or as well.’
