The ethos
Vitruvian Dental Studio was developed to offer the best possible patient experience. On a site with unlimited free parking and multiple amenities, with private waiting rooms equipped with wifi, games consoles, Amazon Alexas, smart TVs and a choice of drinks to relax in prior to their appointment and TVs on the ceiling in the surgeries. With a team with multiple specialists allowing most treatments under one roof.
A close family bereavement made James and Katy realise the importance of each other and ignited a spark to push and live life to the fullest while they still could.
In order to not be separated after graduation Katy and James decided to opt out of DFT and pursue a career in the private dental sector. Excelling and winning numerous dental competitions including Katy crowned North East Best Young Dentist 2021, they decided they wanted to take the plunge and design and set up their own practice.
After a year of hard work, negotiations with banks and landlords and promotion their vision became reality.
The journey is far from over with many exciting future projects currently underway.
What led you to a career in dentistry?
Katy: I have always been artistic. It has always been my hobby and escape from a young age. I did also want to be a doctor and was fascinated with reconstructive and cosmetic medicine.
Having been scared of the dentist most of my life it all just seemed to fit in to place that I could help people, use my artistic love in conjunction with improving someone’s appearance, your smile is the most important thing you wear after all.
What do you like most about it?
James: I love the patients you meet from all different walks of life. I think everyone has something they can teach you and it’s a definite perk of the job.
What are you most proud of accomplishing?
James and Katy: Vitruvian Dental Studio and our team.
We never thought we could achieve what we have in this short amount of time and at a young age.
Together we feel we have picked our perfect Dental team with a wide range of experience and skills and we hope to build this further in the future.
How would friends and acquaintances describe you?
Katy: Mad! I never seem to rest, I’m always on the go and have tons of energy.
James is more laid back than me and a deep thinker, he thinks about actions thoroughly before jumping in head first like myself.
Share with us something about yourself that you want to improve.
Katy: I feel like our busy schedule can make us run late on occasions causing us stress.
I’d like to have better time management so we can get a good work life balance.
How do you unwind outside of dentistry?
James and Katy: We like to go to the gym, walk our dog (John) and also settle down with a bottle of fizz and watch Netflix with our cat Alan ‘on’ an evening.
Where’s your favourite holiday destination?
James and Katy: An American road trip.
What’s your favourite film?
James and Katy: Interstellar – we felt that it shows love is an energy that cannot be limited across space and time.
How do you keep fit?
James: I like to go to the gym to unwind after a day at work.
