Awards confidential – Cheadle Hulme Dental & Cosmetics

FMC’s event director Leanna Ellis visited Shi and Gemma Karim of Cheadle Hulme Dental & Cosmetics to discuss the journey of their practice, and to talk about their awards experience.

Shi and Gemma are a successful dentistry couple who have grown their practice significantly and have received multiple awards for their work. In this interview we discuss their journey, including purchasing Church Road Dental Practice (down the road) in 2009 and the subsequent expansion due to high demand.

They relocated to a larger premises, transforming it from an old bank into a state-of-the-art dental practice now known as Cheadle Hulme Dental & Cosmetics.

Shi said: ‘I was just rushed off my feet, and we thought we need to buy another building and we need to actually expand. We looked at loads of buildings, loads of potential houses we could convert, and nothing really appealed, there was nothing that was right. And then this building, which was a bank that had been derelict for about four years. It came up, and then yeah, we decided to put an offer in for it.’

Team energy

Cheadle Hulme Dental & Cosmetics have been very successful during recent years when entering awards, and it is clear to see why when looking around the practice and speaking to the team. Leanna said: ‘There’s a real obvious energy between you all (the team), that you just can’t miss.’

Leanna also speaks with practice manager Mandy who has been involved with the awards process and has also won Practice Manager of the Year multiple times, after the team submitted an entry on her behalf as a surprise. Mandy discusses how her journey in dentistry began and how her dad was the driver behind this.

Finally Leanna asked the burning question on everyone’s lips: ‘Would you prefer to travel on an elephant or a giraffe to work? And why?’
