GBT: why invest in prophylaxis?

Approaching the GBT Summit in London this September, prophylaxis expert Celso Da Costa explores the benefits of investing in new technologies and protocols.

As we approach the Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) Summit in London this September, prophylaxis expert Celso Da Costa explores the benefits of investing in new technologies and protocols.

Why shouldn’t practices keep with the status quo of traditional prophylaxis methods?

Traditional prophylaxis methods are really old school.

Prophylaxis needs to evolve, but traditional methods are still the same as 50 years ago.

You aren’t seeing people use phone boxes anymore, right? They all have smartphones in their pockets.

Likewise, people aren’t using cassette players on the street. Instead, they’re streaming music on Spotify.

So why not keep up with modern times in relation to prophylaxis?

We live in an age when people are looking for good experiences, so why not bring that to the dental practice and improve the clinical results?

What are the alternatives?

The alternative is Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT).

It’s a systematic, predictable solution for dental biofilm management in professional prevention and prophylaxis using the state-of-the-art Airflow, Perioflow and Piezon PS technologies.

GBT is proven by scientific evidence and allows the best experience for the patient, as we showed with 92% of the patients recommending it to their friends and family.

What kind of return can practices expect with GBT and how quickly?

By experience, in two-and-a-half years of GBT in our chain of clinics, we achieved an 85% increase in direct revenue from prophylaxis.

Not only that, but because GBT makes the patient part of the treatment, it creates more compliance and improves patient engagement in a continuous care model.

We also noticed that 64% of all dental treatments provided by the dentist were being referred by the hygiene department.

So, we didn’t just have one finger on the pulse – we had both hands steering a good return on that investment.

How can clinicians evaluate whether GBT is a good investment and why?

They will see that patients who try GBT will come back with family and friends, and this builds patient loyalty and trust.

In fact, it builds the practice, as it helps to grow the patient list.

Imagine a bucket full of holes. Once you get water inside, it trickles away through the holes. So GBT fixes these holes, and you can keep filling the bucket with water!

How can a team leader engage the team as a whole to implement GBT successfully?

Training, training, training… this is the only way.

Scientific proof and clinical experience are the keys to success.

How can GBT be leveraged to bring in new patients and engage pre-existing patients?

By highlighting the comfort, efficiency, minimal invasiveness, and no-pain experience.

What do patients think about GBT treatment?

In a survey of more than 76,000 patients, 92% prefer GBT to the old methods and would recommend it to friends and family.

Also, nine out of 10 found it pleasant and consider the biofilm disclosing step super useful.

Guided Biofilm Therapy – it just makes sense!
