Seven quick ways to optimise your SEO

SEO search for dental practicesWith so much competition between dental practices to reach the top of Google search results, Amy Rose-Jones gives some quick SEO tips to make sure you rank highly.

1. Pick your keywords

It is helpful if you get into the mind set of your potential patient or client when picking keywords for SEO. Maybe you could use dentist location for example as a targeted keyword that should bring patients to your website.

You could also ask friends or family members what keywords or phrases they would use to find a dental practice in their area. There are also keyword research tools you could use to help make suggestions, such as the Google Adwords Keyword tool.

2. Research what your competitors are doing?

You should identify around 10 competitors or people that you think are doing well within your field. Analyse and compare their web content and try to see what they are doing differently. What keywords are they using? Do they have a ‘latest news’ or blog section on their site? Do they have a good social media presence? How often do they post on Facebook or Twitter for example?

3. Write some high-quality content

Valuable high-quality content attracts users to your site and it makes them stay on your site for longer whilst they are reading it.

The Google search algorithm gives priority to high-quality content, which is one of the factors in making your site rank higher on Google’s search engine.

In addition, if you have a blog section on your site and post regular high quality content, it will keep bringing people back to your site. This improves the SEO rankings of your website too.

4. Focus on local SEO

Local SEO uses keywords that are location-specific, for example if you are a dental practice located in Poole then you should use keywords that contain the words ‘dentist Poole.’ This will enable you to rank for location-specific terms, which will ultimately increase the chance of your website appearing at the top of the search results.

5. Improve your website speed

New customers are likely to leave a website if it takes too long to load. Other than it being frustrating from the user’s perspective, it is also a ranking factor for Google.

There are tools that can help speed up your website, such as Google Page Speed Insights and Google Analytics.

6. Start using header tags

Break up the content on your blog into headings and sub headings. Not only does it make the blog easier to read, but equally as important, it has an effect on your SEO rankings too.

7. Do some link building

Links play a massive role in improving your search rankings. Backlinks allow the search bots to easily crawl through your website. The more you have, the better as it will increase the time your potential patients spend on your site. It will also improve your search rankings.

Outbound links to high domain authority websites with recent and relevant high quality content will show search engines that your blog is of high-quality and well researched and should be trusted. This will help boost rankings too.
