Superdrug will hand out oral health care products for free at two of its stores as part of a new campaign.
Superdrug is handing out free toothbrushes and toothpaste at its Chesterfield and Swadlincote stores today (Wednesday 28 February), according to the Derbyshire Times.
The move comes as it celebrates the launch of its national ‘Healthy Smile’ oral care campaign.
The stores will not only give out free dental products but will also encourage children to pledge to brush their teeth twice a day and educate them on the importance of oral health.
In addition, Superdrug also announced that it is reducing the price of its own brand oral care range, ProCare, by 20% – the equivalent of VAT.
This includes manual toothbrushes from £1.59, electric toothbrushes from £29.59, mouthwash from £2.79 and kids’ toothpaste from 79p.
Growing shortage
This comes as the UK public face increasing issues with accessing NHS dental care.
Recently, the government announced it is considering plans that would allow international dentists to work in the UK without taking the overseas registration exam (ORE).
The proposed plan – which is subject to a three-month consultation – comes amidst this growing shortage of NHS dental provision.
In a release on 16 February, the government proposed to enable overseas-qualified dentists who have not yet achieved full GDC registration to be able to work in the UK more quickly through the introduction of a system of provisional registration.
Provisional registration would allow an overseas-qualified dentist to practise in any dental setting, including high street dental practices, under the supervision of a dentist who has full registration on GDC’s dentists register.
