What training is required to get started with Botox?

what training do you need to get started with Botox?

Harley Street Institute explains how the Dental Botox Masterclass can address the educational needs of dentists and practices wanting to get started with aesthetic medicine such as Botox.

At Harley Street Institute (HSI) we have been committed to challenging the status quo since 2015. Being the first to launch the Aesthetic Medicine Fellowship in the UK, we continue to defy industry norms by placing paramount importance on hands-on experience and the development of practical skills.

Courses at HSI transcend traditional boundaries by utilising comprehensive educational platforms allowing for self-paced learning featuring video demonstrations, diagrams and graphic images all while retaining the primary focus, the practical application of all theoretical knowledge learnt.

The Dental Botox Masterclass has been designed to address the growing desire and educational needs of dentists and dental practices wanting to upskill and provide treatments in aesthetic medicine. It has retained all the essential applicable treatments for dentists, keeping it relevant for all dentists and cost-effective. All while increasing revenue with minimal cost and also providing effective treatments for patients.

Is this applicable to our practice?

Over 10 million adults suffer from bruxism, mainly affecting those between the ages of 25 and 45. The use of dental guards to prevent grinding is a common solution, but not one that is most effective. Compliance is often poor resulting in unsatisfied patients.

Currently, most Botox treatments for bruxism are provided by aesthetic practitioners (doctors, dentists or nurses) who are able to create a steady stream of profit after much marketing and advertising.

According to a 2018 PubMed systematic review on the efficacy of botulinum toxin in the treatment of bruxism, ‘infiltrations with BTX-A are a safe and effective treatment for patients with bruxism, so its use is justified in daily clinical practice, especially in patients diagnosed with severe bruxism’ (Fernández-Núñez et al, 2019).

With a patient list specific for patients with Bruxism already present, Dental practices are perfectly placed for providing these treatments. Bruxism is only one treatment area, but botulinum toxin for gummy smile or droopy lip corners could help provide a holistic treatment plan in smile makeovers and enhance the intricate work done already by the dentist.
