Ken Finlayson takes on Camino for charity in memory of son

Ken Finlayson will walk the Camino for charity in memory of his son

Ken Finlayson, chairman of FMC (owner of Dentistry and dentistry.co.uk), will walk the Camino for charity on Saturday in memory of his son.

‘I tragically lost my son James, pictured in the middle of this family photo, on the 28 August 2022. He was only 25,’ says Ken Finlayson.

As a tribute to his son, Ken will trek the Camino on Saturday 22 July, ending at Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. Here, he will light a candle in James’ memory.

Ken has already raised more than £45,000 for Dentaid – putting him very close to his £50,000 target.

‘I have been overwhelmed by the support from the dental community for the Camino/Dentaid walk for James Finlayson this week,’ he says. ‘We only need a few more donations to get over the £50k mark and ensure that there will be another mobile dental clinic on the road to provide urgent dental treatment across the country this autumn.

‘It’s not too late to donate if you haven’t done so already. Just clink the link. Every penny will be used by Dentaid to help those who need it most.’

‘James was very, very special to me and my family and to the many people that knew him,’ continues Ken. ‘I am trying to raise as much as possible through this walk to help Dentaid, who do wonderful work to provide more urgent dental treatment to those who need it across the UK.

‘I hope you feel able to donate to this special situation and help fund a new mobile clinic in his name.’

Dentaid – the dental charity

Dentaid’s mobile dental units travel across the UK providing dental access to those who struggle to receive it elsewhere. Volunteers visit homeless shelters, soup kitchens and community buildings providing free dental screening, advice and treatment.

This is available to anyone who is not registered with a dentist but is suffering with untreated toothache. Dentaid also provides this service for refugees, as well as people living with drug and alcohol addiction.

Dentaid’s patients have reported feeling more confident after treatment. Being free from pain helps them to access recovery programmes, seek employment opportunities and begin a new phase of life.
