Chrome Roadshow – what’s it all about?

We spoke to James Hamill, dentist and CEO of Quoris 3D, who reveals all on guided surgery and why dentists should attend the Chrome Roadshow.

Please give us a little bit of background on the Chrome Roadshow.

I went to the States in 2015 straight after I left the practices that I sold. I wasn’t sure what to do – whether to go back to clinical dentistry or something else.

I was interested in technology and wanted to know more about 3D printing – but couldn’t find it anywhere in the UK or Europe.

I went to a three-day course in the US. During that time, I became almost instantly obsessed and ended up getting a private tour of the dental laboratory. I suggested to them that I could use this Chrome Guided Smile when I got back home.

I was told no, as it wasn’t allowed outside the US. But I didn’t take no as an answer. I finally got permission to complete a case when I got back to Northern Ireland – the first case outside of the US. Afterwards, I realised there is something in it.

I very quickly realised that Chrome Guided Smile answered a lot of my clinical questions. I wanted to do full arch but also wanted it to be organised, systemised and predictable.

We’ve now done 450 cases across the UK and Ireland. It’s an open system – all you need is the guided kit.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we purchased a building in Ireland, the L.S Browne Centre, which is now the teaching centre for Chrome in Europe. We’ve trained more than 140 dentists over the last 12 months.

What will the Chrome Roadshow involve?

The roadshow starts this month and the plan is to have 20 dentists at each location, and give them an introduction to Chrome.

We look at the record taking, the clinical aspects, the business side and carry out hands-on demonstrations.

We have a number of partners joining us as well as the chance to win a Futudent camera, which allows you to record in 4k.

We are bringing Chrome to the cities because we understand not everybody can travel to Ireland to learn about it. This is to give people a flavour of what’s going on. It costs £50, which goes to Women’s Aid, a cause that Quoris supports.

It’ll be good fun and hopefully people will go away with something that they feel they can potentially use in their practice.
