Partners in success
Dr Shabnam Zai and Dr Nikita Mehta, owners of West House Dental in Pinner, north west London speak about their dream and vision of patient-centred care and ethical dentistry as well as their business partnership.
Can you tell us a bit about your background?
SZ: I am a London girl, I was born and grew up in Ealing. I studied my undergraduate degree in Newcastle then returned to London to do VT. I believe in ethical dentistry and have been fortunate to have worked in practices that wholly embrace it. In my first year qualifying I attended some amazing and inspirational lectures which led me on aesthetic dentistry journey. I am a member of the BAAD and this is where I met my business partner Nikita Mehta. I am married with two children and live five minutes from West House Dental.
NM: I grew up in West London around Westbourne Grove. After graduating in 1999 and moving back to London. I secured a VT position the following year as the system was far different to what it was back then. Most places were already taken up by London graduates. I realised that I wanted to be able to spend more time on my cases and needed to expand postgraduate dental education. During this time the dental education system was not as expansive and available as it is currently. I attended many short courses during the next few years. I finally narrowed down my interest to aesthetic dentistry and minimal invasive approach.
Wanting to live abroad I applied to several programmes and earned a position at UCLA Centre for aesthetic dentistry. On returning to the UK, I was immediately invited to join the team at the world-renowned Windsor Centre for advanced dentistry….
