Richard is a specialist orthodontist with over 20 years of experience in specialist practice. He treats a wide range of malocclusions in both adults and children and has expertise in a range of appliances. In recent years his practice has focussed largely on clear aligner treatment, treating even the most complex cases. Richard regularly lectures at home and abroad on a range of clinical and business topics and he is passionate about helping practices reach their potential.
He is a former director and chairman of Total Orthodontics Ltd, now part of Bupa and still advises Bupa on their Dental Advisory Committee. He sat on the European Advisory Board for Align Technology for several years and is also a founder and director of Aligner Intelligence Ltd. Richard is also currently Chair of the specialists' group of the British Orthodontic Society (BOS) and is a past British Orthodontic Conference Chair, Director of Clinical Practice for the BOS and a past MCN chair. Away from work Richard enjoys skiing and spending time with his young family in Sussex
John studied dentistry at Guy's Hospital and graduated in 1992. After a series of maxillofacial surgery posts and a spell in general practice plus completion of the Fellowship in Dental Surgery he entered the three-year postgraduate orthodontic training programme at the Eastman Dental Institute. In 1999, he was awarded a Master of Science degree and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. John is a founder director of Total Orthodontics Ltd and Aligner Intelligence Ltd. He has published papers in the British Dental Journals and presented research at the British Orthodontic and Dental Research Conferences. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on various orthodontic subjects. John is a member of the British Orthodontic Society and a past committee member of the specialists’ group where he chaired their spring meetings. He has sat on the Kent Local Dental Committee and Managing Clinical Orthodontic Network Group. John is on the UK Advisory Board for Invisalign, a UK speaker, faculty member and Apex Provider. John won the coveted ‘Against All Odds’ British Orthodontic Society Prize in 2008. He has trained and mentored eight orthodontic therapists and numerous specialists in his 25 years in specialist practice. He was awarded Bupa’s Specialist Orthodontist of the year 2020. He sees patients from Total Orthodontics Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, which was awarded Bupa’s Orthodontic Practice 2020. John was highly commended in the Orthodontics Invisalign category at the Aesthetic Dentistry Awards 2021.
