Dentistry Cribs – Woodborough House Dental Practice

In this episode of Dentistry Cribs, we visit Woodborough House Dental Practice – a practice in West Berkshire fully immersed in digital dentistry.

Situated in an old, original Edwardian building in Pangbourne, a village near Reading, Woodborough House Dental Practice has served its community for more than 40 years.

It is owned by Nick Fahey and Sarah Fitzharris, a husband and wife duo originally from New Zealand. For them, the Woodborough House vision is to treat people, not just teeth, and to change lives through smiles.

When patients first arrive at the practice, they are welcomed into the spacious waiting room. Here, a collection of images of Pangbourne for each season area is displayed on the wall. Sarah said: ‘It’s really important to Nick and I that we capture the area around us. Pangbourne is such a beautiful village set on the Thames.

‘We have got a photographer who’s one of our patients who takes photos of Pangbourne. And one of our other patients suggested to us that we do a seasonal quartet!’

Digital dentistry

For Nick, technology is at the heart of his practice. ‘What we’re looking to do is this whole cliche of working smarter, not harder.

‘A lot of people know I’m very passionate about digital dentistry. But the whole idea is it’s good for us and it’s good for the patient.’

His latest acquisitions is the 3D facial scanner which allows him to streamline his treatments by merging with the intraoral scans and 3d planing. ‘With the direction the industry is going, I think facial scanning will be like intraoral scanners – in five years time, every practice will be using them.’

But his ‘pride and joy’ is his Morita CBCT scanner – the latest scanner he uses for guided surgery. He says: ‘As far as the scans that I’ve seen, this across the board is as good as anything that you get, certainly outside of a hospital anywhere.’
