The Secret Dentist – a different world

successThe Secret Dentist reflects on the war in Ukraine at the moment and gives their thoughts on what they think should happen.

Since I wrote my blog one month ago Russia, as predicted by most of the western world, has invaded Ukraine.

I remember the day after this happened walking down the street where I live, trying to imagine how I would feel if the complete normality of that was changed by having bombs raining down; something many residents of towns in Ukraine were suddenly confronted with.

Minding your own business on a normal day during your normal life and then having to endure something so outside of the normal is difficult to comprehend.

It is also impossible to imagine, but it has now been going on for almost a month and getting worse.

UK response

I do not think anybody in the UK can fully understand how this can happen in 2021. And how, in theory, we in the west are leaving the Ukraine to defend themselves against the giant that is Russia.

Ok, we have organised sanctions and are sending weapons to help them defend themselves but really.

Is this what the human race has descended to.

We’re allowing a smaller country to be battered and battered. All by a complete bully who has the resources of a huge military machine at his disposal.

At what point do we say enough is enough?

At what point do we stop turning the other cheek? When do we stop hiding behind the fact that Ukraine is not a NATO country? And therefore we cannot interfere for fear of the bully lashing out at the rest of the world.

Personally, having seen what I have seen for the last month, I do not think anything justifies watching the innocent civilians – men, women and children being slaughtered. And we sit back and play the: ‘They aren’t NATO card’. Doing nothing.

What kind of humans are we to allow other defenceless humans to be killed whilst we do nothing for fear of being attacked ourselves?

Very poor human beings if you ask me.

Is this the world we now live in? If so, please can we stop whilst I get off?

A period of reflection

Personally, I think we should go in and help and accept the consequences of that. Not to do it isn’t human.

Hopefully, in the very near future, once the conflict has ended, there will be a period of reflection as to what we have done to ourselves to get to this position.

Hopefully, everyone can consider how they might alter their thought processes and actions. And we start to reverse this selfish ‘it’s all about me’ culture.

But, given what I have seen to date, I won’t hold my breath.
