Well-led on an ordinary Tuesday: what inspection sees that the paperwork can’t hide
Most practices treat compliance as paperwork and leadership as something separate, and inspection keeps showing that the two are the same thing.
This session brings together a compliance specialist and a leadership specialist to talk plainly about what well-led looks like on an ordinary working day: who owns which standard, what happens when the principal isn’t in the building, and how the team behaves when nobody is watching.
The aim is for owners and managers to leave with an honest read of where their own practice sits, and one or two practical changes that make it easier for the team to do the right thing.

- How to hand over compliance responsibility so it sticks, delegating authority as well as tasks

Speaker: Mark Topley
Mark Topley is a leadership and culture specialist working with dental practice owners and practice managers through Exceptional Team Performance. His work builds practices where the standards hold when the owner isn't in the building, and he works with principals and managers together, because that is where most of the friction sits.
He has spent 25 years in dentistry, including thirteen years leading the charity Bridge2Aid in Tanzania. He runs the Practice Manager Bootcamp in partnership with Practice Plan, speaks at the BDA, the Dentistry Show, FDI and Dentown, and writes regularly for Dentistry.

Since qualifying from Manchester University, Pat’s career has included more thqn 30 years in general practice, oral surgery teaching positions at Guy's and Manchester, deputy chief dental officer at Denplan, group clinical director at Oasis Dental Care, course director at the FGDP(UK), and chief dental officer at Dentex.
In 2010, Pat founded Apolline to provide compliance and regulatory support to dental practices and groups. She is passionate about compliance and has lectured widely on all compliance-based subjects. In 2023, Apolline partnered with FMC to form an integral part of the Dentistry Practice Services division.
