This week we welcome Amber Ojak who discusses why we need to reshape the perception of dental hygienists and therapists.
A dental therapist from Edinburgh, Scotland, Amber Ojak chats about her journey into hygiene and therapy. She also discusses why we need to move past the idea that hygienists only provide a ‘scale and polish’.
Additionally, she talks us through her EME approach (educate, motivate, encourage) – an idea she came up with over lockdown. And where she hopes to take it in the future.
‘I think every single one us hears the term ‘scale and polish’…and I’ve always been a strong believer that we’ve always had patients thinking that is what we’re there for as dental therapists and dental hygienists,’ she says.
‘I think it’s the barrier, potentially, stopping them from taking on a lot more and changing hygiene appointments if we want to.’
