Orthodontist Neil Patel talks about the concerns and issues linked to direct-to-consumer aligners and why patient communication is crucial.
In this week’s episode, we chat to Neil Patel, a specialist orthodontist based in Herts, Essex and London.
We talk about the rise in direct-to-consumer orthodontics and how to educate patients on the associated safety and health concerns.
‘I can’t quote the study but I did read one last week – we’re looking at around 7-8% of patients who have aligners online will need to go and see a DCP to rectify the damage that’s been done,’ he says.
‘To think that’s close to 10%, I wouldn’t personally take the risk.’
