Demi Moore reveals stress-related tooth loss

Demi Moore has revealed she has lost her two front teeth – allegedly due to to stress.

In an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the 54-year-old actor explained: ‘I sheared off my front teeth.

‘I’d love to say it was skateboarding or something really cool, but I think it’s really something that’s important to share because it’s literally, probably after heart disease, one of the biggest killers in America – it’s stress’.

Sharing photos showing her right central incisor missing, Demi revealed to host Jimmy that she went on to lose both central incisors, to which the shocked host replied: ‘This is insane’.

Jimmy also shared a video Demi had provided of her at the dentist, showing one of her teeth missing.

‘My children love seeing me without my teeth because they think it makes me look more vulnerable and human,’ the film star said.

Stress and tooth loss

Stress can sometimes lead to tooth loss, as one of the common signs of stress is bruxism.

Bruxism can often go unnoticed as it can happen whilst asleep, and this could lead to tooth sensitivity, gum problems, difficulty chewing, headaches and neck ache, as well as the possibility of ultimately losing teeth.

However, Professor Andrew Eder, an expert in tooth wear and clinical director of the London Tooth Wear Centre, says: ‘If damage resulting from tooth wear is diagnosed and addressed in its early stages, extensive dental treatment that might otherwise be necessary to correct the situation can be avoided.
