Catch up on National Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist Day 2024

Celebrating Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist Day 2024

NSK explains how you can access the educational discussions that took place for National Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist Day on demand.

To commend the invaluable work of dental hygienists and dental therapists in today’s dental landscape, two dynamic and thought-provoking NSK Ikigai forums have been held. Each was designed to empower dental hygienists and dental therapists to unlock their true potential. Also, to increase job satisfaction at every stage of the career.

Featuring expert panellists from the UK and Ireland, the forums explored in detail the role of dental hygienists and dental therapists. They are now available on-demand on dentistry.co.uk.

So, if you missed either of these events first time around, want to hear them again, or recommend them to a friend, now’s your chance.

What’s in store for dental therapists

‘Talking therapy: your questions answered’ brings together panellists Anna Peterson, Cat Edney, Ibrahim Numan and Pat Popat led by host Lauren Long. This group of highly experienced dental therapists discussed implementing dental therapy into everyday practice. As well as management of patient care within the dental therapist scope.

The expert panel exchanges views and answers questions on a wide variety of topics highly relevant to today’s dental therapists. These include the challenges which have been faced since qualifying. Also, the public’s awareness (or lack of) of the role of a dental therapist.

Finally, the many reasons why highly-qualified and competent therapists should be central to the delivery of patient care, alongside the dentist.

What’s in store for dental hygienists?

The ‘Hygienists’ forum: the role of hygiene in 21st century dentistry’ brings together highly experienced dental hygienists Kate Reading, Helen Minnery, Katherine Mayo, Lisa Pearson and moderator Siobhan Kelleher. They discuss how the role of the dental hygienist has evolved over recent years. The panel consider how dental hygienists contribute to modern practice. Additionally, how they see the future for dental hygienists in the management of patient care.

This lively and engaging conversation swaps ideas and opinions on life as a dental hygienist. It looks at the pillars of lifestyle medicine, the importance of treating the whole body, not just the mouth, and why it is essential to look after yourself and your mental health, as well caring for your patients.

It also touches on the importance of having the right equipment and incorporating a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Finally, the prospect of owning an independent dental hygiene practice.
