
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) can be challenging to diagnose and manage in everyday clinical practice.
This webinar will explore key challenges in TMD diagnosis and management, presenting practical, evidence-based frameworks to support assessment and treatment planning.
This session will also discuss approaches to supporting patient self-management between visits, including the role of emerging digital health tools.

- Describe the ‘usual’ presentation patterns of the main groupings of TMD (myogenous versus arthrogenous) and red flags that may suggest a mimicking pathology
- Apply the knowledge gained to make a diagnosis of myogenous, arthrogenous or combination TMD
- Apply a broad understanding of initial reversible therapies for TMD based on a sound foundation of supported self-management.
The speaker
Justin Durham is a professor of orofacial pain and dean of research and innovation of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University and an honorary consultant oral surgeon at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s Hospitals’ NHS Foundation Trust in the UK.
His primary research interests are in orofacial pain both at the first and second translational research gaps. He has wide experience in a variety of methodologies involved in health services research and has received international awards both for clinical and pedagogical research.
He has held several national and international leadership roles within orofacial pain and is currently the British Dental Association’s chief scientific advisor and chair of NIHR’s DSE fellowship panel. He is currently leading the world’s largest ever trial in myalgia TMD.
Justin is a co-director of Jawspace and its chief clinical and scientific officer.
He is boarded in Orofacial pain in the USA and was the first person in the UK to attain this qualification, the gold standard globally for clinical expertise in Orofacial pain. He is also on the UK’s specialist list for oral surgery.
