Welcome to the future of dental restorations! Ivoclar shares the benefits of IPS e.max all-ceramic, a high-strength aesthetic restoration material.
First introduced 20 years ago, IPS e.max has redefined quality in all-ceramic dental restorations. High-strength, aesthetic materials set new standards and provided solutions for a variety of needs. From the start, the product family impressed not only with its broad processing tolerances and high productivity but also with its outstanding clinical performance.
IPS e.max played a key role in establishing minimally invasive treatment approaches, thereby transforming patient care sustainably. Whether you’re looking for solutions for single-tooth restorations or larger prosthetic applications, IPS e.max delivers exceptional results.
What are the advantages of all-ceramic restorations?
- Aesthetics: the colour, translucency and light reflection of natural teeth are almost perfectly replicated
- Biocompatibility: high compatibility reduces the risk of gingival irritation and allergic reactions
- No dark margins: the possibility of visible dark margins is eliminated
- High strength: ensures durable and long-lasting restorations
- Minimally invasive preparation: allows for gentle and less invasive treatments that preserve natural tooth structure.
The evolution of IPS e.max – innovations over the years
Actually, Ivoclar’s evolution into a renowned leader in dental all-ceramic materials and technology began with the introduction of IPS Empress in the 1990. The first press ceramic system followed in the late 1990’s with the first generation of high strength glass-ceramics. This milestone set the stage for the launch of IPS e.max family in 2005, marking a new era in ceramics.
Launch of IPS e.max in 2005
The IPS e.max product portfolio was introduced in 2005 and at that time already included the lithium disilicate glass ceramics IPS e.max Press and CAD, the zirconium oxide ceramic IPS e.max ZirCAD, as well as the fluorapatite layering ceramic IPS e.max Ceram. The IPS e.max all-ceramic family comprises material for the CAD/CAD- as well as for the Press technology.
Quickly known for its versatility and productivity, IPS e.max became a favourite among dental technicians, dentists and labs for its outstanding aesthetics and reliability. To date, approximately 230 million restorations have been fabricated using IPS e.max materials.

Take a trip down memory lane: defining moments in the history of IPS e.max
IPS e.max has continued to evolve since the day it was launched to meet your changing requirements for all-ceramic restorations and technological developments in manufacturing. Additional translucency levels and further shades have been introduced continuously. Besides, pioneering technological expertise, such as the advanced bulk glass processing of the IPS e.max Press and IPS e.max CAD lithium disilicate products, as well as the GT Technology used in IPS e.max ZirCAD zirconium discs, have driven innovative material developments.
These advancements have led to new raw material combinations in modern zirconium oxide materials. As a result, the application range of the IPS e.max portfolio has been continuously expanded, and new possibilities have opened up new standard in restorative dentistry.
