We look back at the highlights of Dentistry Live in 2024 and offer a sneak peek at what’s lined up for this year.
Last year, Dentistry Live brought dental professionals closer to the forefront of innovation and expertise through a number of engaging live demonstrations. From groundbreaking implant surgeries to the intricacies of hygiene prophylaxis, these sessions highlighted the latest techniques and provided actionable insights for UK dental professionals.
The interactive demonstrations offered dental professionals a unique opportunity to learn directly from some of the UK’s leading experts while watching real-time procedures. The 2024 series of sessions covered a diverse range of topics tailored to enhance clinical skills and confidence.
Here are some of the standout moments from last year’s sessions:
- Karen Walker addressed the growing concern of peri-implant disease in implant dentistry. Her session provided a comprehensive guide to diagnosis, treatment and maintenance protocols, allowing clinicians to gain confidence in managing the new disease
- This year’s endodontic sessions focused on practical solutions for complex procedures. Both Tom Brannen and Simon Barnwell offered invaluable tips on accessing, shaping and cleaning root canals. Their detailed insights into root canal treatment equipped attendees with the knowledge to provide high-quality endodontic care
- Camilla Morrison’s session focused on reviewing an orthodontic case, highlighting the transition to a temporary retainer and planning the next steps in the patient’s cosmetic journey. She shared insights into achieving predictable and successful outcomes, showcasing the case’s before-and-after impact. This session provided valuable strategies for achieving excellent results in orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry.
Dentistry Live 2024 in review
We hear from two of our 2024 session leaders as they share their favourite moments from their livestreams.
Cat Edney – hygiene prophylaxis
I loved being able to take the Dentistry Live audience through the full process of communication throughout the appointment. I think it is important to showcase what really goes on during a hygiene appointment.
This is no scale and polish – this is a full consultation that takes into account so much more than a plaque index! Seeing my patients reaction after her appointment, how engaged she was and how we both forgot completely that there were cameras on us was priceless!
We did have one or two technical challenges, but isn’t that just always the way in clinic anyway? As clinicians, we become very adept at managing these tricky situations (for me, it was a lack of power to my Itero scanner!), but we made it work and managed to get the communication we needed in order to educate the patient.
I would love to see more Dentistry Live sessions on minimally invasive dentistry, communication and more bringing the patient into the conversation. In dentistry, we often focus on the treatment and the clinical outcomes, but the long-term impact on our patient and their understanding is something we should focus on.

Simon Barnwell – endodontics: a live root canal procedure
My favourite part of my Dentistry Live session was the opportunity to connect with colleagues during the Q+A after the case as we received so many great questions!
The biggest surprise during the treatment was the need to manage unexpectedly large amounts of bleeding from the canal, which started an interesting discussion after the case and hopefully provided some important learning points.
My area of interest in dentistry is very narrow, so I am most looking forward to future endodontics content!
