Mark Allan, general manager of Bupa Dental Care
Mark Allan, general manager for Bupa Dental Care, said: ‘As a leading provider of dental expertise, we value and are extremely proud of our nursing community and recognise the integral role they play in providing high quality patient care.
‘We want to empower nurses to feel they can take charge of their careers through on-the-job training and continuous learning. We want them to reach their full potential, so along with annual performance reviews and additional compensation for achieving qualifications and new skills, we also cover GDC registration fees and indemnity on their behalf.
‘It is our belief that being a leading employer of choice goes beyond competitive pay. Our complete package of benefits also prioritises employee health and wellbeing. From mental health support to remote GP consultations, physio services, and allowances for dental insurance and health assessments, we strive to support our people’s mental, physical and financial health.’
Nicola Bell, lead dental nurse at Bupa Dental Care Dundee
Someone who has thrived in their career and wants to inspire others is Nicola Bell. Nicola, 37, is a lead dental nurse at Bupa Dental Care Dundee.
Starting as a trainee dental nurse in 2019, Nicola is an example of Bupa Dental Care’s commitment to fostering talent from within and promoting career progression.
With the support of her colleagues and mentors, Nicola has seized every opportunity to develop. She has now progressed to the role of lead nurse.
Nicola added: ‘After qualifying, I completed a dental sedation course, and six years later, I am now a lead nurse. I love learning and I’m currently expanding my knowledge of dental implants. These require a different level of skill to support in surgery. I’ve always been encouraged to progress in whichever way I choose, and my pay has increased accordingly.
‘It’s not just a dream job because I love what I do. I also have amazing support for my own health – and my family. Knowing I have access to high-quality medical care puts my mind at ease. It makes me feel valued and looked after in every way.’
Mark concluded: ‘At Bupa, people are at the heart of the business, and we want our hardworking dental nurses to be healthy and happy in their roles. We want them to feel valued and know that we’re committed to investing in their wellbeing and career growth, so that they in turn can provide our valued patients with exceptional care to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives.’
