Specialist orthodontist Annika Patel shares her favourite orthodontic products from DB Orthodontics.
Annika Patel is a lingual orthodontics expert, lecturer, artist and art collector. She splits her working week over six practices, offering the highest quality lingual orthodontic treatments.
Her upcoming lecture, ‘Crossing Boundaries – the digital/implant/orthodontic/restorative interface’ sees her partner up with restorative dentist and implantologist Martin Wanendeya at the British Orthodontic Conference on Thursday 15 September.
Their lecture shares an insight to their approach to orthodontic and restoratively driven multidisciplinary cases, using analogue and digital workflows.
Here are Annika’s top four products. Let’s start from the top.
Number one: IX960 Lingual Anterior Debonding Plier
This bracket removal plier has a great design that enables easy grip of lingual brackets gingivally, underneath the bracket, for removal.
The claw is nice and neat. It is really important with lingual to have a clean removal all-in-one-piece, otherwise you have to spend extra time removing pieces of bracket. An arch can be debonded quickly and easily with the Ixion Lingual Anterior Debonding plier. It keeps chair time down.
Number two: The Ixion Micro ligature cutter
The Ixion Micro ligature cutter is a fantastic non-bulky instrument. The small handle means that it can be used lingually or labially – it is really comfortable to use.
I love these so much – I don’t use any other size ligature cutter anymore if I can help it.
Number three: The Ixion Cinch Back Plier
Hammer heads, otherwise known as cinch backs, are good for bending rectangular Niti arch wires in particular. They are great for producing a smooth right angle bend – the cinch back plier is something I cannot work without. It is an essential for all my lingual cases.
Number four: Infinitas Mini Implant Kit
I view the Infinitas Mini Implant Kit as a ‘Tads for Dummies’ kit because it is so user friendly. I find the screwdriver easy to use, and the simple choice of different lengths are easy to work with. Originally, I was using another alternative however I switched to Infinitas when I realised how streamlined the kit was.
