90 seconds with…Laura Checksfield
This week Laura Checksfield talks about her strangest experience in dentistry and what her plans are for her new aesthetics business.
Laura Checksfield has worked within dentistry for 11 years, kickstarting her career fresh out of high school. Qualifying as a dental nurse and then graduating from Leeds University as a dual qualified dental hygienist and therapist.
Having spent most of her working life within NHS dentistry, Laura now works full time in a private practice in her hometown in south Yorkshire, utilising her full scope of practice.
She spends most of her surgery time restoring adult teeth. Later this year she intends to attend Monik Vasant’s Totally Composite course to enhance her skills and offer smile makeovers to her patients.
Laura also opened her own facial aesthetics business in 2020 after training with Dermamedical and Aesthetics Academia. This allows her to explore other routes of creativity and make patients feel more confident.
Laura’s passion is pushing for practices to utilise therapists more. Seeing how well the practices she’s worked in have strived and increased profit tenfold with this, she therefore wants to educate and encourage more to follow suit.
