Dental news you’ve missed this week
Missed out on this week’s dental news? No problem, here’s what happened over the past seven days…
On Thursday we got the news from Sara Hurley that dental practices in England will reopen on Monday 8 June.
In her letter to the profession, the CDO for England says the range or care offered will be risk-managed by individual practices.
Despite this, Colette Bridgman, CDO for Wales, has hinted that routine dentistry in Wales may not return until early 2021.
This week we’ve continued our Back to Practice campaign, with the support of GSK. As part of the campaign we found out the demand from patients, with NHS 111 receiving a record number of calls for dental treatments.
Earlier this week the government rolled out its contact tracing system for the coronavirus. Dentist, Bhavin Patel, gives his experience training as a clinical contact tracer. He’ll keep us up to date on how it’s all going.
We continue to hear stories from dental professionals bravely working on the frontline against COVID-19. Beth Bradley spoke to a senior dental officer, a community dental officer, a redeployed foundation dentist and an oral surgery clinical lecturer to hear their ’emotionally challenging’ experiences.
One of the fronts fighting against the coronavirus comes from an unlikely source. Action on Sugar and Action on Salt are calling for an immediate government intervention on obesity in a bid to drive down the coronavirus death rate.
Our long read this week comes from Hassan Asad. He gives his story growing up in pre-war Iraq before escaping the tensions and moving to the UK to become a dentist.
And finally, the UK ranks second across Europe for dental health, despite having one of the lowest numbers of dentists per capita.
Make sure you take a look at the latest webinars happening over on Dentistry Study Club. Next week we have:
