Missed out on this week’s dental news? No problem, here’s what happened over the past seven days…
Coronavirus
The coronavirus is quickly grinding the UK to a halt. As things change and as the government announces new measures, we’ll do our best to bring you the latest updates and how they will impact dentistry.
Non-urgent treatment to stop
Earlier this week, England’s CDO caught up with the rest of the home countries, giving her advice to dental practices on the coronavirus outbreak. She, along with the BDA, says all non-urgent treatment should now stop until told otherwise.
GDC introduces ‘flexible approach’
During this unprecedented time, the GDC has also relaxed its expectations, saying it will take a ‘flexible approach where possible’. Although it suggests dentists remain up to date with their CPD remotely.
Your stories
We’ve been reaching out to the profession to hear your stories during the crisis and find out how you and your practices have reacted. The Singing Dentist has also released his own parody to help lighten the mood a little too.
Children’s tooth decay rates
Elsewhere, Public Health England data showed 23% of five-year-olds show signs of tooth decay. A lack of improvement since 2017 has provoked the Oral Health Foundation to put its voice behind the water fluoridation movement.
The aligner expert
Deepa Vakil, aka ‘The aligner expert’, is now contributing a regular monthly article to Dentistry.co.uk where she will keep us all up to date on the latest advances with aligners. In her first column she discusses the use of social media.
90 seconds with…
And finally, this week’s 90 seconds with… comes from Bhavin Patel, with one of the strangest experiences in dentistry we’ve ever heard of.
