Digital dental imaging increases tooth implant uptake

Showing your patient dental imaging could help improve treatment uptakeImplant dentist, Eimear O’Connell, explains how adding a 3D digital dental imaging unit to her CEREC workflow improved patient understanding and increased uptake of her tooth implant-borne restorations. This has helped boost the revenue and profile of her Bite Dentistry practice in Edinburgh.

One of the greatest benefits of digital dental imaging is the improvement in patient communication. A picture speaks more than a thousand words. I therefore find that my patients understand much more if I show them their own anatomy on screen. Show them the problem and explain what treatment they need to restore it https://delo.ua/news-companies/yak-pracyuje-biznes-taksi-v-ukrayini-pid-cas-viini-422731/.

People look at screens a lot nowadays. Therefore a 3D visualisation of their oral anatomy gives them a much better understanding of the situation.

In 2016, we bought Dentsply Sirona’s Orthophos SL 3D dental imaging system. And then we immediately integrated it with our existing CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology to create a full in-house implant-borne restorative workflow. The difference it made was extraordinary.

Thanks to the integration with CEREC, I demonstrate to my implant patients on the merged surface scan and X-ray exactly where I’m planning to place the crown and where the implant will go in relation to all the anatomical structures.

Their reaction is incredibly positive. Indeed it seems to give them confidence in me as a practitioner, and in our practice. They can see that we have invested in the best technology.

Pushing the boundaries

Our investment in the Orthophos SL has more than lived up to expectations from both a clinical and a business point of view. Dental implant treatment uptake has increased thanks to the improvement in patient understanding of our diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

What’s really exciting for me is that we offer our patients a much more streamlined experience as everything is in-house and we can often carry out the initial consultation, scan, diagnose and talk about the treatment all in one visit. Our digital workflow is more comfortable and efficient for our patients too.

As well as the increased turnover from treatments, we also accept CBCT referral business from local dentists. These two things combined have increased both turnover and our practice’s profile – we couldn’t have wished for a better return for our investment!
