Explained: J&J’s new patient hygiene campaign

Dentistry.co.uk digs deeper into the small print of the unprecedented oral health campaign being run by Johnson & Johnson to answer your burning questions.

Dentistry.co.uk: What is a professional clean?

Johnson & Johnson: To be eligible to make a claim under this promotion, patients must have paid for PMPR (professional mechanical plaque removal) – more commonly referred to as a scale and polish, with a hygienist. The offer cannot be exchanged for another treatment.

Dentistry.co.uk: Can patients visit any dental practice or is it only certain practices?

J&J: Patients can visit any dental practice to receive their scale and polish, provided their appointment is 7-90 days after purchasing two promotional Listerine bottles and they keep the receipts and invoice from the appointment.

Dentistry.co.uk: When does the promotion run?

J&J: Promotional bottles will be available in participating Tesco stores (in-store only) in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) from 3 July 2019. Patients have 90 days following purchase of their second Listerine bottle to redeem their scale and polish. The promotion will close on 31 December 2019.

Dentistry.co.uk: Where can patients buy promotional bottles?

J&J: Promotional bottles will be available in participating Tesco stores (in-store only) in the UK (again, excluding Northern Ireland). The promotional bottles will not be available in Tesco Extra or Tesco Express stores.

Dentistry.co.uk: How many bottles do patients need?

J&J: Patients will need to purchase two promotional bottles to be eligible to redeem their cashback. The bottles will have a neck hanger on them.

Dentistry.co.uk: Which products are eligible?

J&J: Products included in the promotion are Listerine Total Care 500ml, Listerine Total Care Milder Taste 500ml, Listerine Stay White 500ml and Listerine Teeth and Gum Defence 500ml. To be eligible, the bottles must have a promotional neck hanger on them.

Dentistry.co.uk: Can patients redeem against a different treatment?

J&J: The cashback can only be redeemed against a scale and polish and up to a value of £50. If their scale and polish costs less than £50 the remaining money cannot be claimed. The scale and polish treatment carried out must be clearly shown on the dental invoice. If more than one treatment is provided during the appointment, the invoice must be itemised to show the cost relating to the scale and polish.

Dentistry.co.uk: Can’t patients just have the money?

J&J: Cashback will only be provided with proof of payment for the scale and polish.

Dentistry.co.uk: Patients want to participate but cannot pay for the treatment. If a practice does not charge them, can it redeem the cost directly with Listerine?

J&J: the cashback must be redeemed by the patient after their appointment. This is not a promotion for cashback to be redeemed by a practice.

Dentistry.co.uk: What if the treatment costs more?

J&J: If the treatment costs more than £50, patients will be able to redeem £50 towards the cost of their appointment.

Dentistry.co.uk: What if the treatment costs less?

J&J: If the treatment costs less than £50, patients will be able to redeem the full value of their appointment only. The remaining money cannot be claimed in respect of another treatment or given as cash.

Dentistry.co.uk: How long do patients have to redeem the offer?

J&J: Patients are able to redeem their treatment seven to 90 days after their second Listerine purchase. Any appointments carried out in the immediate seven days after purchasing their second bottle, or more than 90 days after purchase, will not be valid.

Dentistry.co.uk: How many times can patients receive the offer?

J&J: Just once – the offer is limited to one per household.

Dentistry.co.uk: How many offers per household?

J&J: The offer is limited to one per household.

Dentistry.co.uk: How long will the promotional bottles be on shelves for?

J&J: We expect promotional bottles to be available in participating Tesco stores until approximately 13 August.

Dentistry.co.uk: What if patients can’t find promotional bottles?

J&J: Unfortunately, a condition of the promotion is purchasing two promotional bottles of Listerine.

If your patient is struggling to find the promotional bottles, it is advisable to check other Tesco stores (excluding Tesco Extra and Tesco Express) if they would like to participate.

Dentistry.co.uk: What if the patient has lost their receipt?

J&J: To be eligible for the promotion, proof of purchase must be provided. We suggest that patients take a photograph of their receipt/s as soon as they purchase the bottles to ensure they do not misplace them.

Dentistry.co.uk: What if the patient has lost their promo code?

J&J: To be eligible for the promotion the patient must provide the two unique promo codes found on the neck hangers on the promotional bottles of Listerine. We recommend patients take a photograph of the codes as soon as they purchase them to ensure they do not misplace them.

Dentistry.co.uk: Are all Listerine products included in this promotion?

J&J: Only certain products in the Listerine range are included in this promotion.

Dentistry.co.uk: Do dental practices have to pay anything towards the promotion?

J&J: No: practices will not be required to make any payments relating to this promotion.

Dentistry.co.uk: What if a practice doesn’t want to work with Listerine?

J&J: Practices are not expected to work with Listerine to deliver this promotion: patients can purchase promotional bottles and visit practices independently.

Dentistry.co.uk: Will Listerine expect practices to share patient information?

J&J: No, patients will provide their own information direct to Johnson & Johnson.

Dentistry.co.uk: What about patients who have a dental insurance or payment plan?

J&J: Claims under this promotion require payment for a scale and polish treatment by a patient. If a patient receives the treatment as part of a total insurance plan or package, they will not be eligible to make a claim. However, if the patient elects to receive an extra scale and polish appointment, which they then pay for, then they can claim back up to £50 of the cost at the point of treatment.

Dentistry.co.uk: Can practices tell their patients about this?

J&J: Yes – practices are welcome to tell their patients about the offer!

Dentistry.co.uk: How can dental professionals get more information about Listerine?

J&J: It’s simple: just contact customer services on 0808 238 9999 (standard rates apply).
