Today's dental oxymoron is 'ethics and law'.
It was refreshing to hear dentists yesterday talk about ethics in such a passionate way. To paraphrase they said, 'treat patients fairly and right and you will have a good life and a great practice.'
These days, the cost of family life and running the business of a dental practice can chip away at ethics. It is a daily battle.
Linking law to ethics as I heard they do in dental school is like mixing oil and water. One is black and white, the other is about doing the right thing by our fellow man and it transcends the law in so many ways.
Given no other choice, I'd rather break the law ocassionally, but be ethical 100% of the time. But it does not work for me the other way round.
