The GDC annual retention fee hike of 64% is whipping up the profession into a frenzy. I have received statements and letters from all corners of the profession, and not one person has a good word to say.
When you add the GDC 'ambulance-chaser' advert to the public canvassing for cases, this regulator is profoundly unpopular right now.
But the time for criticism has passed. The GDC needs solutions now – I think it needs restructuring.
What is a better structure for the GDC that satisfies its need to protect the public first, as well as hears fitness to practise cases at a 10th of the current cost?
