Best practice for Dental Academy

Portsmouth University’s Dental Academy has won Dental Practice of the Year award in a local newspaper’s health awards.

The awards are an annual event run by Portsmouth’s local paper, The News, and recognise workers in the health industry.

The University Dental Academy, which was one of five to be shortlisted, was nominated by some of its patients and was especially praised for its customer service.  Reception staff came in for particular acclaim and were described as warm and friendly, efficient, polite and helpful.

The award was collected by three of the Dental Academy’s staff who attended the awards ceremony on Friday; school administrator, Amy Fullick, senior course administrator, Gemma Potts and senior finance officer, Emma Mason.

Head of school, Sara Holmes, said that the award was especially important because it had come from the local community.

‘It means a lot to receive an award for which we were nominated by our patients. The Dental Academy is at the heart of the Portsmouth community and I’m thrilled that we have been recognised and that our staff have received such warm commendation.’

The practice, which was runner up in last year’s Best of Health Awards, is open to members of the public, although it is not currently accepting new patients with the exception of children under the age of 16.
