New role at Peninsula Dental School

Peninsula Dental School, Plymouth University, has appointed Ewen McColl as associate professor (senior lecturer) and consultant in restorative dentistry based at its Devonport Education Facility.

Ewen graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1993 and after House Officer positions joined the Army in 1995. 

He has gained extensive experience as a general dental practitioner during his military career and has served overseas, including a tour as Senior Dental Officer in Afghanistan and on Loan Service to the Sultan of Brunei’s armed forces.

His postgraduate training was carried out at the Eastman Dental Institute, Guy’s Dental Hospital and Loma Linda University in California.  He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has extensive teaching experience including a period as Director of the Defence Dental Services Training Establishment and Dental Hygiene School.

He has been involved in periodontal research during his Master of Clinical Dentistry degree at Eastman, and more recently research into dental morbidity on military operations.

Outside of work he is a keen skier and runner, completing last year’s London Marathon in 2hrs 55 minutes.
