Planning beyond the extraction – imagining the bigger picture and getting the timing right

Minimally invasive tooth extractions are essential to reducing the risk of damage to the surrounding bone, nerves and soft tissue.

Preserving the width and height of the jaw bone prepares for easier placement of dental implants, either immediately or down the line, and is a fundamental skill every dentist should master. This webinar is designed to give delegates a better understanding of atraumatic tooth extractions along with the short and long-term factors to consider.

Learning outcomes

  • How the timing of an extraction will facilitate the next steps
  • Atraumatic techniques and instrumentation
  • Treatment planning – the next steps and bigger picture
  • The benefits of ridge preservation for the patient and the dentist.

Speaker: Joe McEnhill

Joe qualified from Queen's University, Belfast, in 2000. He then relocated to Manchester to continue his education and soon joined a central Manchester maxillo-facial unit enabling him to participate in major reconstructive surgery. It was in this post that Joe gained his membership of the faculty of dental surgery, Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. Joe then returned to his native Enniskillen and shortly after, he graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in England with an advanced diploma in implant dentistry. Joe has travelled the world in order to learn new techniques from some of the best dental educators. Many trips to the USA, Germany, Spain, Brazil, South Africa and the UK have enabled Joe to offer advanced treatments such as implants, soft and hard tissue grafts, full mouth rehabilitations and digital smile design. As recognition of the high standard of Joe's treatments, he was awarded the best young dentist in Northern Ireland 2011. He has since received further recognition from the dental industry in 2017 when he was invited to become a fellow of the prestigious International College of Dentistry. Not one to sit still throughout the Covid pandemic he has continued developing his academic credentials. He has just successfully completed his membership of advanced general dental surgery diploma at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2021. He continues to develop professionally, specifically in the area of extra-maxillary implants and enjoys complex multidisciplinary cases. Joe enjoys giving back to the profession and he currently runs an oral surgery course in Northern Ireland; he also mentors dentists in the field of oral surgery and dental implants. Joe is the current regional representative for  Northern Ireland for the Association of Dental Implantology for 2022-2024. Outside of dentistry, Joe is the proud father of two children. He is a frustrated golfer and tennis player. He truly hopes that his sporting genes do not impede his son’s ambitions to be a pro footballer.
