Essentials of periodontal care in general practice
This lecture will provide an overview of all the key perio topics relevant in general practice, including the new classification.
Learning outcomes
- To outline our current understanding of the aetiology and risk factors of periodontal diseases
- To understand and simplify the new classification and its application
- Provide tips on delivering effective oral hygiene advice
- To understand the objectives of non-surgical periodontal therapy, including indications for antimicrobial therapy
- Discuss when and how to refer a patient for specialist care
- To briefly discuss the diagnosis and management of peri-implant diseases.
Speaker: Reena Wadia
Dr Reena Wadia is the founder and principal periodontist at RW Perio, a state-of-the-art, four-clinic surgery on Harley Street that is among the top specialist gum clinics in the UK.
Dr Wadia is also the founder of Perio School, a globally renowned teaching academy for periodontal courses, teaching dental students, dentists, and hygienists for more than 10 years. Dr Wadia is an expert adviser to the BDA Indemnity Board, co-editor of the ‘Other Journals in Brief’ section of the British Dental Journal, and trustee of the Oral & Dental Research Trust (ODRT).
