Shakil graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2015 with a Bachelor Degree in Dental Surgery and passed his MFDS examinations to become a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2017. He has always had a passion for endodontics and has recently completed a full-time specialist training programme (DDSc Endodontics) at the University of Liverpool. His doctoral research project focused on the assessment of endodontic case complexity and its application in teaching and clinical practice. Shakil successfully completed his specialty membership examination (MEndo) at the RCS Edinburgh in 2021.
Shakil has experience in both general practice and hospital dentistry environments. He initially continued his postgraduate training as a DCT/SHO in multiple specialties, particularly Restorative Dentistry and Max-facs. He was then appointed as an Academic Clinical Fellow/StR in Endodontics at the Liverpool University Dental Hospital in 2018. Shakil is currently working a specialist endodontist in referral practice in the north west , as well as teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in his role as a clinical lecturer in restorative dentistry at the University of Liverpool.
Education has always been a passion for Shakil. As well as his role in academia, he has taught on various private and NHS deanery courses aimed at general dental practitioners and foundation dentists. Shakil is also the founder of Dental Careers Guide, a non-profit company providing guidance and CPD to dentists, whilst fundraising for dental aid charities.
