Calling time on NHS dentistry: how to make the move to private dentistry

The aim of this webinar is to provide guidance to dental professionals considering the transition from NHS to private dentistry.

Les Jones, creative director of Practice Plan, hosts this live webinar in discussion with Zoe Close, Practice Plan’s head of sales, as they discuss the essential things you need to consider when making the life-changing decision to move from NHS to private dentistry.

Les and Zoe will be joined by Dr Manish Chitnis, practice owner and principal dentist of Dental Concepts, to discuss his recent experience of handing back both his adult and children’s NHS dental contracts, including the key things he’s learnt along the way and what his advice to others would be having experienced the process first-hand.

With an increasing number of dentists and wider dental teams feeling disillusioned with NHS dentistry, many are debating the merits of handing back their NHS dental contracts, and naturally have many questions they need support answering. Les, Zoe and Manish will discuss the important questions most frequently asked by those thinking about making the move, including:

  • How do I know if this is the right thing for me to do?
  • Will enough patients stay with the practice to make this change viable?
  • How quickly can I convert from NHS to private dentistry?
  • How do I get my team onboard with the conversion?
  • How do I reduce my contracted number of UDAs?

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the pros and cons of partial versus full conversions from NHS to private dentistry
  • Identify the first steps necessary to explore and begin the conversion process
  • Develop strategies to gain team support and involvement in the transition
  • Understand effective communication strategies to inform patients and the local community about the change
  • Determine the financial implications and patient retention strategies to ensure the transition is financially viable.
