Is my NHS practice in the right area to successfully go private?

Suki Singh explains the process Practice Plan takes to discover if a move to private practice is right for you.

Where your practice is located is one of the important factors to take into consideration if you’re thinking about moving to private dentistry.

The demographic of the local population and what other dental services are available in the area for patients can impact the likelihood of a successful transfer away from the NHS.

Many people worry that having other NHS practices nearby will mean that should they choose to move to private dentistry, their patients would simply leave and join a different practice.

But, in the current climate where NHS dentists are dealing with a big backlog and huge waiting lists, some of up to three years, that is becoming a much less likely scenario.

And location, while important, is just one factor that affects your chance of success. Other considerations include how long the practice owners have been in place. Along with the strength of your relationships with patients and the financial performance of the business.

NHS to private practice

If you’re thinking of moving away from the NHS, one of the first things we do at Practice Plan is a risk assessment to analyse all of those key factors.

If it looks as if you’re not in the best position to make the move right now, we’ll tell you. But we’ll also give you advice on what changes you can make. Then you can transition to private later down the line if you still wish.

If you are in a good position and ready to start putting the wheels in motion, we can guide you through the whole process and provide ongoing support to help you build your new private practice.

In the past 25 years, we’ve helped hundreds of dentists successfully make the move to private dentistry. If you’re ready to speak to someone about a future outside of the NHS, you can call: 01691 684120 or book one of our NHS to private one-to-one virtual clinics.
