Operational efficiency: the biggest mistakes your practice is making

Clinically, dentistry has evolved. Scanners, AI tools, digital workflows – these are now standard in modern practices. But operationally? A lot of practices are still running like it’s 2005.

I’ve seen it across practices of every shape and size. Big investments in clinical tech on one side, and then hours being lost each week to tasks that haven’t changed in 20 years. The duplication. The paper trails. The spreadsheets. The habits no one ever questions.

We’ve become brilliant at doing the A to Z of a process. But no one stops to ask: ‘Y?’

Here are a few common examples that might make you pause. We’ve worked with practices across the UK and spotted recurring trends. The best-run clinics tend to have solid internal processes, usually digital, usually simple, and built to reduce friction.
