Nurturing, yet state of the art: Treeline’s training supports tomorrow’s dental workforce

Just qualified or looking to broaden your career? Choosing a practice that will support your training and development can determine your career journey.

Treeline understands the significance of this moment and offers a pioneering, yet nurturing approach for taking not just dentists, but DCPs and indeed all dentistry practice staff to the next level.

Treeline is a small group of practices based in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, which has been providing quality NHS and private dental care for over 14 years. The group’s approach is to be ambitious for trainees by providing state-of-the art programmes, developing its entire workforce with structured career pathways is front-and-centre.

This training takes place for all roles within a dental practice: dentists, therapists, hygienists, nurses and administrative staff. All members enjoy the best training Treeline can give with the oversight of a highly-trained and supportive team.

Training pathways

Treeline’s career path to support dentists and dental nurses includes offering the opportunity to shadow qualified staff, along with a structured in-house training pathway. Each team member is assigned a Treeline mentor to assist with coursework and additional training modules.

For qualified nurses, the offer includes further training in areas such as radiation, oral health education, orthodontics, sedation, and a pathway to grow into practice management roles. For dentists we offer both hands on and remote training in all the four domains of clinical learning.

Indeed, it would appear that the Treeline training experience is so inspirational and nurturing that many have stayed on and on.

Chelsea Foster is a prime example of a beneficiary of the Treeline training approach who having joined the dental group six years ago as a qualified dental nurse in the role of head nurse, helping set up the group’s Sleaford site. She then progressed to become a dual practice manager at the Lincoln practice.

As the team and site grew, she transitioned to a full-time practice manager, completing a foundation degree in leadership funded by Treeline. After helping the team meet all targets, she progressed into the head of business development role.

Testimonials

Chelsea Foster said: ‘I joined as a dental nurse and I wouldn’t have conceived that in just six years’ time I could be heading up business development at Treeline. I think pride in the work we all do is evident across the whole team. It is this sense of belonging to a dentistry group which gives opportunities and encourages everyone to push themselves, that has built such a spirit of loyalty at Treeline. We are always looking to recruit across a number of roles and can offer training in our five practice groups in Bolsover, Keyworth, Lincoln city, Nottingham city and Sleaford.’

Dr Ciya Kurian, dental therapist and hygienist, Treeline Dental Care, Lincoln said: ‘As a qualified dentist from overseas, my clinical progression in the UK began with Treeline. While pursuing my master’s degree, I worked part time as a trainee dental nurse. Transitioning from assisting chairside to becoming an independent dental therapist has been an empowering progression. Treeline has played a pivotal role in helping me build a purpose-driven career in the UK.’

Jo Rodd, deputy lead and head mentor for trainee nurses, Treeline Dental Care, Lincoln said: ‘I started as a dental nurse and have progressed into a training role. When we recruit trainee dental nurses, I dedicate as much time as possible during their initial weeks to help them become competent and confident. This training then progresses to them enrolling in a course to become qualified dental nurses. Throughout, the team and I support them to achieve this goal.’

‘As much about the team as the patients’

Jimmey Palahey, co-founder, Treeline Dental said: ‘When my wife and I founded Treeline, we wanted our dental group to be as much about the team as the patients. It is important to me that the trainees who choose Treeline know that their career development is a priority. including protected time for extended duties. We have veered our owns careers into clinical education and pride ourselves in tried and tested in-house training pathways with access to qualified educational supervisors with decades of combined experience.

‘Whether you are clinical or have joined to work on our reception/admin team, at Treeline we are looking to tailor a bespoke solution for each individual’s career path.

‘Our trainees will be tomorrow’s dental workforce, and I have always felt a sense of duty to ensure that we offer them the best experience, whether they stay with Treeline or take their learnings elsewhere. Everyone’s a winner because we know we are setting up dentists and DCPs with a top training experience to care for patients wherever they practice.’
