This program focuses on preventive strategies like plaque detection, fluoride treatments, and fissure sealants to protect children’s teeth from decay. The module looks to address the oral health challenges specific to different stages of childhood, from primary teeth through early permanent dentition.
Comprehensive, patient-centred care that fosters lifelong oral health for young patients
Learn the application of fluoride varnishes and gels, with a focus on preventing early childhood caries and how to assess caries risk in children and determine the appropriate frequency and type of fluoride treatment for individual patients.
Develop the knowledge on the criteria for selecting which teeth should receive fissure sealants, including how to assess the child’s risk factors for developing cavities. Train on the technique for applying fissure sealants to young patients’ teeth, focusing on molars and other teeth with deep grooves susceptible to decay.
Effective communication with both children and parents
Create and communicate personalised home care plans that include age-appropriate brushing and flossing techniques, dietary advice, and the use of fluoride toothpaste.
