Naturalist and adventurer Cat Capon speaks about the dos and don’ts of eco-conscious dentistry – and why sustainable living is not about dramatic changes.
In our latest episode of Dentistry Talks, we welcome Cat Capon, a conservation expert, who explains why we should and can care for the future of this planet – and it doesn’t mean giving up all the things you enjoy.
Cat discusses why sustainability and conscious choices as both a business and individual are crucial, revealing practical ways that dental teams can make eco-conscious decisions.
From natural elements in practice design to eco-tourism, Cat explores a range of ideas that can be considered to not only improve the planet’s wellbeing but produce better businesses.
We also cover Cat’s journey as a woman working in a male-dominated space, where she speaks candidly about the struggles of balancing parenthood with her career – and how she has tackled the ‘mum guilt’ that came with it.
‘With hindsight, I’m now able to recognise that it was a really dark time for my mental health. I definitely did struggle with postpartum depression,’ she says.
‘At first, I thought it was my fault and that I wasn’t cut out for it. But actually I can now see that the way that our society has been constructed is not set up for success for mothers at the moment.’
