Principal dentist Simon Thackeray discusses his conversion from NHS to fully private practice, a journey that began with his conversion of adult patients back in 2005.
The more recent decision to hand back his children’s NHS contract was not a foregone conclusion. Simon had hoped to provide care within the NHS framework, but the reality was stark: the NHS element of the practice was running at a loss, and the disproportionate amount of time spent on a minimal percentage of his contract was unsustainable.
Staff members echoed this sentiment, advocating for a fully private practice as the only viable solution to continue providing the quality of care they were trained to do.
Simon highlights the role of Practice Plan in facilitating this transition, providing crucial support and resources that enabled him to navigate the complexities of becoming fully private. With their help, he was able to maintain control over his practice’s finances while focusing on delivering high-quality care without the burdens of NHS constraints.
Simon emphasises that this shift was not about profit but about freeing himself and his team from the shackles of bureaucracy, ultimately allowing them to enhance patient care.
