Dental professionals will have an exclusive opportunity to invest in sustainable oral care brand Pärla as it launches its first round of crowdfunding.
Founded by dentists Simon Chard, Adarsh Thanki and Rhona Eskander, the company produces a line of oral care products designed to move away from wasteful plastic tubes and bottles. These include both toothpaste and mouthwash tablets supplied in glass jars.
Simon Chard said: ‘As practising dental professionals, we wanted to create a solution that’s both effective for our patients and respectful of our planet.’
Since its inception, Pärla has gained more than 39,000 customers online and is stocked in more than 2,000 retail locations such as Sainsbury’s, Boots, Waitrose, Ocado and Wholefoods.
This round of crowdfunding is intended to accelerate the growth of the company and increase access to sustainable oral care. Pärla will be raising £400,000 for 10% of equity, with investments starting at £22.62.
Dr Chard continued: ‘By inviting the profession to join us in this crowdfunding round, we’re opening the door for like-minded individuals, especially within the dental industry, to support and participate in the future of responsible oral care.’
Backed by the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), investors will benefit from tax relief. Dr Thanki said: ‘With the recent UK budget release, our EIS approved investment allows investors to defer Capital Gains Tax (CGT), offering flexibility in managing taxable gains.’
The crowdfunding round will be hosted on Republic (formerly Seedrs). Tiered rewards will be earned with each level of investment, with exclusive rewards for dental professionals including free Pärla products.
