Which country has the highest level of graduate dentists?

Romania has the highest rate of graduate dentists in Europe with 9.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to a new study.

In 2022, 14,313 dentists graduated in the EU, representing 3.2 dentist graduates per 100,000 inhabitants. The number represents a slight increase from 2021, up from 3.1.

Reported by Eureporter, behind Romania sits Portugal (9.1) and Bulgaria (7.8).

The lowest rates, however, were all below 1.5 dentist graduates per 100 000 inhabitants. These can be seen in Malta (less than 0.1), Italy (1.4) and the Netherlands (1.5).

The top 10 dentistry courses for 2024 were:

  • Queen’s University, Belfast (100)
  • University of Glasgow (97.9)University of Dundee (96.9)
  • Newcastle University (96.1)
  • University of Bristol (95.3)
  • University of Sheffield (94.1)
  • Cardiff University (93.6)
  • King’s College London (93.1)
  • Queen Mary University, London (92.8)
  • University of Birmingham and University of Plymouth (92.4).

Helen Davies, editor of the Good University Guide 2024, said: ‘It is more competitive to get a place at many of our top institutions. The cost of attending university has soared leaving graduates with extraordinary debt, and in many cases campus life still bears the scars of the pandemic.

‘Meanwhile lecturers are on strike and the marking crisis is a running scandal.

‘It is right to take the time to make the right choice, and what you study and where you study matter more than ever when it comes to future earnings.’
