After a groundbreaking day at the 2024 MiSmile Conference & Gala, MiSmile delves into why this event and the MiSmile community continues to make change within the dental arena.

Founded by Dr Sandeep Kumar, MiSmile has quickly become one of the most influential groups within the dental industry. This year, MiSmile’s conference theme was ‘change makers’. The motif was apt for a community that shows such commitment to embracing transformative practices in dentistry.
The scale and impact of this year’s gathering was summed up perfectly by Dr Kumar:
‘We were thrilled to host over 500 MiSmilers at our ninth annual conference in London. This event has grown not just in size but in its capacity to inspire and equip dental professionals to lead change in their practices and the industry at large.’

He continued: ‘The theme of “change makers” was chosen to highlight our community’s proactive approach to overcoming challenges through innovation. From introducing the MiSmile rebrand to launching MiSmile Media with my son Rahil, we are setting new standards for what a supportive dental community can achieve together.’
Digitise, disrupt, develop
The conference began with an address by Dr Kumar, setting the tone for the day and emphasising the importance of embracing change. And what better way to exemplify change than with the launch of a MiSmile rebrand? MiSmile Media was also introduced – a new initiative co-founded with his son Rahil. MiSmile Media is aimed at revolutionising marketing within the dental industry.
The keynote speaker was Harpreet Kaur, winner of The Apprentice 2022 and co-founder of Oh So Yum. Her session followed with a stirring talk about stepping out of comfort zones to initiate change. This resonated with attendees, motivating them to seek growth by pushing beyond traditional boundaries.
Leadership from Align Technology, Simon Beard and Kamal Bhandal, discussed the latest advancements from Align. Also, how these could be leveraged by the MiSmile community for enhanced practice results.
Justin Owens from TikTok rounded off the morning with a look at ‘the TikTok consumer opportunity’, providing practical tips for dental professionals looking to tap into the power of social media to reach new demographics.
Focused breakouts and strategic insights
Post-lunch, the conference featured an exciting array of breakout sessions with speakers from diverse backgrounds and specialties.
Dr Adriana Garro, global clinical director at Clear TPS, delved into the hidden landmarks of a virtual treatment plan. She also offered a deeper understanding of digital dentistry.
Lucie Simic, renowned dental business consultant, led a session on inspiring change in your dental practice. It was filled with actionable advice on enhancing practice culture and patient engagement.
Finally, Jamie Morley, leadership coach and author, explored leading your practice and unveiling the mysteries of change. His talk aimed to help attendees navigate the complexities of business transformation.
The day concluded with the unveiling of MiHub, a new central communication hub designed to give MiSmilers one place for everything MiSmile. It consolidates resources and support, facilitating access to information and collaboration across MiSmile.
An evening of recognition and celebration
Following the day was an explosion of colour with the 2024 MiSmile Awards Gala. The gala is a spectacle of celebration and camaraderie attended by 400 guests who truly embodied the ‘colours of change’ theme.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement from the moment the dhol players kicked off the festivities. It was amplified by singing waiters and a live band, whose performances ensured the dance floor remained full into the early hours.
Of course, the event would not be complete without MiSmile’s annual Community Awards. A total of 15 awards were presented, celebrating the remarkable successes and advancements made by MiSmilers over the past year.
Perhaps the most poignant moment of the night was the presentation of a cheque for over £275,000 to Operation Smile. This generous donation, raised by the MiSmile community, serves as a powerful reminder of the far-reaching effects of their collective efforts – extending well beyond the dental chair.
The gala underscored the deep sense of community and mutual support that defines MiSmile. Members not only celebrated their own successes, but contributed to a much larger cause. This gathering was truly a reflection of the unity and shared purpose that drives the MiSmile community to make change and thrive.
