Sean, a mydentist clinician in Aberystwyth, discusses his experience as a young dentist and the opportunities that mydentist provides for early-career dentists.

Sean, a clinician at mydentist Aberystwyth, began his dental career in 2018 when he graduated from Manchester University. He came full circle in January 2022 when he joined the mydentist Aberystwyth practice in Wales, taking over the reins from his retiring childhood dentist.
Sean said: ‘Joining mydentist Aberystwyth was a homecoming for me, and despite the challenges posed by our rural location and the ongoing pandemic, the comprehensive induction from mydentist’s bespoke CPD portal set the stage for success, ensuring my CPD was up-to-date so I could focus on my patients and my development.’
A vital support system
Sean has gone from strength to strength since then. He says: ‘The support and encouragement from both the practice and the area team have been instrumental in growing our plan patients and exploring innovative treatments like ClearCorrect. We hope to be able to recruit a TCO in the future, which would make a huge difference in improving and streamlining our ways of working as a practice so that we can remain focused on what’s important – providing our patients with excellent care.’

Sean noted: ‘Monthly calls and events with other dentists and regional clinical directors have showcased the immense support and networking opportunities available at mydentist. When it comes to clinical freedom, Sean emphasised that mydentist exceeded his expectations, saying: ‘The regional team’s investments in our practice, including a digital 3Shape scanner and digital orthodontic monitoring solutions, have expanded our capabilities and provided me with the freedom I need to deliver high-quality care to our patients efficiently.’
Looking towards the future, Sean envisions a role that involves both clinical and non-clinical duties.
‘I want to constantly focus on patient care while growing my private revenue,’ he said.
